Spatial Attention and Saccadic Camera Motion
نویسنده
چکیده
An important aspect of computer-controlled camera motion systems is that of the generation of saccadic movements, which shift the camera gaze quickly from one xation position to another. Recent psychophysi-cal experiments suggest that there exists a causal connection between spatial shifts in visual attention and the production of saccadic eye movements in humans. Motivated by this experimental evidence, we propose a winner-take-all based model of exogenous spatial attention , involving both sustained and transient feature detection channels, and link it to the targetting and triggering of saccadic eye movements. We show that this model accounts for a range of oculomotor phenomena observed in human subjects. We describe the application of this model to a robotic camera gaze control system.

Changes in orientation discrimination at the time of saccadic eye movements
Perceptual performance has been known to change around the time of saccadic eye movement. In the current study, we measured the accuracy and sensitivity of orientation discrimination of bar stimuli presented during fixation and before saccadic eye movements. Human participants compared the orientations of the test and reference bar stimuli with the head erect in a two-interval forced choice tas...
متن کاملNormal spatial attention but impaired saccades and visual motion perception after lesions of the monkey cerebellum.
Lesions of the cerebellum produce deficits in movement and motor learning. Saccadic dysmetria, for example, is caused by lesions of the posterior cerebellar vermis. Monkeys and patients with such lesions are unable to modify the amplitude of saccades. Some have suggested that the effects on eye movements might reflect a more global cognitive deficit caused by the cerebellar lesion. We tested th...
متن کاملVisual motion shifts saccade targets.
Saccades are made thousands of times a day and are the principal means of localizing objects in our environment. However, the saccade system faces the challenge of accurately localizing objects as they are constantly moving relative to the eye and head. Any delays in processing could cause errors in saccadic localization. To compensate for these delays, the saccade system might use one or more ...

متن کاملSpatiotemporal dynamics of visual attention during saccade preparation: Independence and coupling between attention and movement planning.
During the preparation of a saccadic eye movement, a visual stimulus is more efficiently processed when it is spatially coincident with the saccadic target as compared to when the visual and the saccadic targets are displayed at different locations. We studied the coupling between visual selective attention and saccadic preparation by measuring orientation acuity of human subjects at different ...
